“I love Evo’s Root Canal Volumising Spray to help create a gorgeous glossy blow out, with body and movement, without looking too flat,” adds Hayes. Finally, smooth over with a finishing crème such as Hershesons Almost Everything Cream to tame flyaways for that photo-ready finish that Kate nails every time. What's more, Kate's darker brown hair was coupled with the return of her soft, bouncy hair. In November, the Duchess of Cambridge shocked fans when she began experimenting with curly hair (via Hello!).

The Duchess of Cambridge and Cornwall debuted her brighter new look with (gasp!) highlights at the King's Cup Regatta. It appears she swapped out her usually chocolate brown locks for a new honey brown color with a shorter version of her bouncy-layered blowout. Next, use a medium-size round bristle brush to blow dry the hair smooth, and using a medium-sized tong, take sections of hair from just under the ear and wrap around the barrel, away from your face. When trying to create Kate’s effortless wavy hairstyle, you first want to start with wet hair says Joshua Gambrell, celebrity hair stylist at New York City’s Lotus Salon. Run a large, wide-toothed comb through your strands to detangle it, and follow by blotting your hair with a towel.

“A warm, brown base with very subtle highlights just one level lighter to give hair dimension,” says Stephanie Brown, master colorist at Eddie Arthur Salon in New York. When at the salon, Seeley suggests asking for a deeper colour at the roots, with subtle “face-framing balayage highlights” around the face and lengths to recreate Kate’s hair colour. The golden highlights sit in the warm spectrum of colours which “will add more of a sun kissed youthful glow”, adds Seeley. Though simple and timeless, Kate Middleton’s hairstyle is anything but boring.
You need to then hold in place for a few seconds and release, before setting the hair in place with the cool shot on your hairdryer. Now I admit, it helps to be genetically blessed with thick, shiny, long hair--OK, it REALLY helps--but there's at least one trick that everyone can use to cop Kate's look. I like to call it the round-brush twist, and it's really not that hard to master once you practice it a couple times.

I think the Duchess of Cambridge's 'gringe' has given lots of women with long hair some new ideas. Half-down style shows off Kate's elegant features and creates another layer of texture. Here Karl Tong, managing director ofPurple Salon, in London's Soho, shares his tips for re-creating six of her best looks at home...
Behold Kate Middleton’s Hair Transformation from 2005 to Today
Kate Middleton and Prince William are undoubtedly the future of the royal family. Because of this, all eyes are on them at all times, including their fashion and how they present themselves. In fact, all eyes diverted directly to Kate and William when they made their first appearance of the new year this week donned with fabulous fashion — and a new hair color on Kate.
In 2002, Middleton wore her dark chestnut hair in ringlet curls, with a couple of strands wrapped in string for a St. Andrews University fashion show. The now-famous sheer dress she wore down the runway was sold for $125,000 at an auction in 2011. Circa 1987, a five-year-old Kate Middleton has her signature chestnut brown hair pulled up with the makings of framing bangs. Celebrating her royal engagement to Prince William in 2010, Middleton wore her shiny, polished locks in soft curls with luminous skin. Then, take small sections and wrap your hair around the brush all the way to the root, applying heat until that section is dry. As your hair is already straight, there will be no need to keep on going over the hair—simply heating that section will give you a lovely, bouncy wave.

‘You’re never going to get rich girl hair without a good blow dry. This particular look does't have too much volume but the style is incredibly pretty and natural. For the curls, you can use a curling tong at the ends and hairspray to hold everything in place. She suggests asking your colourist for some soft caramel diffused highlights in through the ends of the hair to enhance movement and give dimension. Stay up-to-date on every breaking royal family story by subscribing here. When Princess Catherine stepped out in sparkly Cinderella pumps at an Action on Addiction dinner event, we couldn’t help but notice her usually chocolate brown hair had a lighter, caramel tint to it and even more volume than usual.
Next pick up a round brush, Gambrell recommends using a two-inch barrel for thick hair and a one and a half inch barrel for thinner hair. Starting at the bottom, wrap sections of your hair around the brush and work your way up, curling the hair under. “Point the airflow on the dryer down towards the floor, this direction of air flow is what creates the smoothness,” says Gambrell. Finish the blow dry, then spray about four to five pumps of the shine mist all over your hair. Kate Middleton stepped out last week to honor Queen Elizabeth II in a classic black dress and debuted a stunning lighter hair color. The Princess of Wales, 40, greeted mourners at Windsor Castle over the weekend along with her husband Prince William, brother-in-law Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.
Ferretti grew up in a family of hairdressers and barbers in a small village outside of Parma, which he left behind for London’s fashion scene after a year at the hairdressing school he enrolled in when he was just 14. From there, he hit it off with the late Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani, who soon tapped him to fill in for a hairstylist at Giorgio Armani‘s shows in Milan. After Ferretti, then 17, finished one model’s hair, the designer asked him to do all the others’—putting him on a similar path to success as Vidal Sassoon, whom he also worked with. ‘It was great to learn the ins and outs of the blow dry and get so much training. ‘I also use a couple of drops of root-lifting spray with a blow dry,’ says Richard Ward.
This helps hold it better and gives it more time to fall, says Nicholas Penna, Jr., owner and lead stylist at SalonCapri in Newton and Dedham, MA. Penna recommends using Shu Uemura Sheer Laquer Hair Spray ($45). “These salon professional colours are ultra conditioning and give richness and intensity. The colour ebbs away naturally and you only need to have it re-done every few months,” Richard explains. To recreate Kate’s look on me, he started with the base — a blend of Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue and Pixi Beauty Balm.
Wearing her brunette curls side-parted with a soft smoky eye, Middleton looked all done up at the wedding of Lady Rose Windsor and George Gilman in 2008. Arriving at the St. Andrew’s School in Berkshire, England, in 2012, Middleton wore her brunette curls with side swept bangs and a nude lip. Attending the naming ceremony for the new Princess Cruises ship ‘Royal Princess’ in 2013, Middleton paired her tousled half up do with a chic black hat. Depending on how naturally curly your hair is, you may find that this leaves you with enough of a wave in the hair, but if you want to add a little more, then use a large curling tong—I like the GHD Curve with the larger, 32mm barrel. Always use a nozzle on the hairdryer and keep the air flow going down the hair shaft to reduce frizz and flyaways. ‘As you go in to the winter, you need to address the general state of your hair,’ he says.
